GVFL Backs SpectraGaze Systems in 3.7 Crore Funding

GVFL Backs SpectraGaze Systems in New Funding

Ahmedabad-based deep-tech startup SpectraGaze Systems has secured ₹3.7 crore in a seed funding round led by GVFL. Founded in 2023 by Arup Banerjee after 23 years at ISRO, the company builds advanced optical imaging sensors and electro-optical payloads. Because India has historically relied heavily on imported detectors for critical operations, this fresh capital aims to accelerate indigenous manufacturing across space and defence sectors.

Spectragaze Systems: Building Indigenous Space and Defence Tech

Before closing this external round, the startup relied on customer-funded programmes to prove its engineering capabilities. That bootstrap phase paid off with major institutional clients, including ISRO and the Physical Research Laboratory. Meanwhile, the firm secured an image sensor development contract for ISRO’s next-generation HRSAT programme alongside AMETEK, proving its hardware meets strict mission requirements.

  • Secured ₹3.7 crore seed investment led by GVFL
  • Delivered advanced infrared detectors to ISRO
  • Won the competitive iDEX PRIME Challenge award
  • Developing a hyperspectral camera for Kaynes Technology

Hardware Milestones and Future Roadmaps

Beyond traditional satellites, SpectraGaze Systems won the iDEX PRIME Challenge to build an indigenous Infrared Detector Dewar Cooler Assembly. That win highlights the team’s capacity to handle extreme thermal and optical engineering challenges. Furthermore, the firm is currently building a hyperspectral imaging camera for a 3U satellite scheduled for delivery to Kaynes Technology by November 2026.

What This Means for India’s Deep-Tech Sector

Although India boasts a rapidly growing private space sector, hardware manufacturing remains capital-intensive and difficult to scale without institutional backing. According to GVFL Managing Director Mihir Joshi, the investment will directly expand commercial presence and engineering teams. Ultimately, as SpectraGaze Systems scales up production, it aims to supply sensors for Earth observation, greenhouse-gas tracking, and drone-based surveillance.
